The story of the nativity will be presented by members and friends of the combined churches of Rochester, narrated by Uniting Church Reverend Brian Morgan.
He wrote the script in conjunction with Salvation Army Lieutenant Cameron Lovering, members of all four congregations playing pivotal roles in conveying the biblical story.
The drama will be performed in biblical costume by Rochester people with script in hand to ensure the performance runs smoothly.
About 14 people will feature in the story telling production, which is expected to take an hour to present.
“The story is based on the bible story, The Birth of Jesus,” Reverend Morgan said.
“We felt it fitting to tell the story In the midst of a fairly commercial atmosphere.”
He said it was the first time Presbyterian, Salvation Army, Anglican and Uniting congregations had combined to present such an event.
“The story is told in drama and sung carols,” he said.
Sunday presented a opportunity for the cast to complete its first, only and last rehearsal.
"A lot of us don’t have a lot of time to rehearse, but we all know the story,“ he said.
Reverend Morgan and his wife Desiri arrived in Rochester at this time last year.
“The day we arrived this time was market day. The people who were hosting us took us straight to the market,” he said.
The Echuca Federal Band will provide the music for carol singing, which is interspersed through the story.
The audience is invited to join in the singing, lead by a scratch choir of locals.
The performance will begin at 6.15pm with music, with the drama starting at 6.30pm. Bring your own chairs or a picnic rug.
