In the heart of Campaspe Shire, a hidden artistic community is poised to step into the spotlight.
The Campaspe Artists Studio Trail, scheduled for February 22 and 23, 2025, is set to showcase the region’s creative talent in a distinctive and personal manner, making it a must-see event.
Event organiser Dey Alexander moved to Kyabram a decade ago and stumbled upon a thriving creative community.
“The studio trail’s concept was born from a desire to bring our community’s hidden creativity to the forefront,” Dey said.
While studio trails aren’t groundbreaking, they typically flourish in areas renowned for their artistic communities.
“In our area, it's a bit more concealed,” Dey said.
“I simply wanted to make it more visible to people.”
The event is expected to feature at least 25 artists opening their studios across Campaspe Shire.
Three community art spaces — Kyabram Town Hall Gallery, Rushworth Art Depot, and the Foundry Arts Space in Echuca — will participate for those without a publicly accessible space.
“The studio trail offers a unique art engagement experience,” Dey said.
“Unlike a gallery, it attracts people who might not consider themselves art enthusiasts or feel intimidated by traditional exhibitions.
“We’re aiming for a friendly event where people can meet the artists face-to-face.”
Visitors will be able to observe artists at work, ask questions, and potentially ignite their creative spark.
“We’re hoping most artists will demonstrate their techniques, allowing people to witness the art-making process first-hand,” Dey said.
