Rochester was brimming with Christmas cheer as the Salvation Army hosted its annual Christmas at the Silos carols service on Christmas Eve.

About 250 community members gathered at the silos to celebrate the festive season with Christmas tunes, free pizza and entertainment for the children.

Rochy corps officer Maryanne Lovering said the event was a great success.
“It was wonderful, we had a really great night,” she said.
“We were happy to have all the help from the kids and to have a bit of fun.”
With the Rochy Salvation Army Band members out of action due to health reasons, the carols were played using the Salvos’ pre-recorded jingles as Mrs Lovering and the crowd sang along.
A few students from St Joseph’s Primary School took to the stage to help out on the night and sang Away in a Manger and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
They also put their acting skills to the test, getting into costumes and acting out the nativity story as read by Mrs Lovering.

A local boy also added to the entertainment by playing Jingle Bells on the keyboard as the audience sang.
The most popular attraction of the night, however, was the petting zoo, which was well attended throughout the event.
Attendees also enjoyed the giant games, a nativity scene and free pizza by Tiamo Twin Flame.
