“The main focus of the dinner is for the artists to unveil a mini version of their mural,” organiser Judy Anderson said.
“We have those covered up, and then we reveal them at the dinner. The artists then get the chance to speak about the theme.
“This year’s theme is ‘I Have a Dream’.”
The launch dinner is being held at Rochester Racecourse Recreation Reserve (the 4Rs) on Saturday, April 6, at 6.30pm.
The artists taking part — Marco Pennachia, Ana Armillas, Chris Duffy, Kerry Nicholson, Maryanne Jenkins, Helen English, Steve Monk and Gren Freeman — will then start painting the full-size murals the next day.
The Rochester Mural Festival was initially created in 2011 to boost residents’ spirits after the devastating floods they had just experienced, making this year’s event just as important.
Ms Anderson said that the night is another way for the community to really connect over a special event.
“We have raffles on the night, which makes it fun and there is a bar where people can buy themselves a drink,” she said.
“We’re hoping that the community can come together again and really enjoy this fantastic, social night out.”
Tickets are $35 per person and can be bought at Rochester Newsagency.
