An observed public holiday will be held on Monday, January 27.
Campaspe Shire Council will be announcing the Citizen Awards separate to Australia Day this year to allow awardees to celebrate how they wish.
The Free Press has put together a list of the events across the region where communities are celebrating Australia Day this year.
Kyabram
When: Monday, January 27 from 8am
Where: John Pilley Reserve, Fauna Park Dve
The Kyabram Rotary Club will be hosting its annual Kyabram Australia Day ceremony at the John Pilley Reserve. Under the shade of the gum trees, a bacon and egg breakfast will be available for all who attend.
The Kyabram Scouts will be raising the flag and awards for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Group of the Year will be announced. Bring a chair or a picnic blanket and enjoy a day out celebrating Australia Day.
Girgarre
When: Sunday, January 26 from 8.30am
Where: Girgarre Memorial Hall
Join the Girgarre community as they celebrate another Australia Day from 8.30am, local organisations will gather to raise the Australian flag and name the Citizen of the Year. A barbecue breakfast will be available to attendees.
Stanhope
When: Sunday, January 26 from 9.30am
Where: Birdwood Ave park
Community volunteers will be firing up the barbie, offering a free sausage sizzle to all who join the Australia Day festivities, including the flag-raising ceremony and entertainment.
Tongala
When: Sunday, January 26 from 11am to 1pm
Where: Tongala pool, 621 Henderson Rd, Tongala.
The Tongala community will come together for a family-friendly day of poolside festivities to usher in another Australia Day. Organised by the Tongala Development Group, from 11am, there will be live music, a free barbecue and games on offer for all to enjoy.
Rushworth
When: Sunday, January 26 from noon
Where: Rushworth ‘Villiage Green’
New residents will be welcomed into the Rushworth & District community during a ceremony on Australia Day. There will also be a presentation of awards, a sausage sizzle and live entertainment for attendees to enjoy.
Kyvalley
When: Sunday, January 26 from 12.15pm to 1.15pm
Where: Kyvalley Community Park
The Kyvalley Swimming Club is hosting Australia Day with a community lunch, a ceremony with a guest speaker as well as entertainment throughout the day. The pool will be open to the public from noon to 3pm for those who wish to cool down in true Australian fashion.
Wyuna
When: Sunday, January 26 from 6.30pm
Where: Wyuna Memorial Hall
The Wyuna Memorial Hall committee is hosting a dinner to celebrate Australia Day. There will be a flag raising ceremony from 6.30pm before a barbecue becomes available from 7pm.
The committee asks attendees to bring their own drinks and cutlery and plates. They also ask for attendees to RSVP to the committee’s Facebook page before Thursday, January 23.
