Campaspe Shire Council is seeking consultation from the community regarding the future of its maternal and child health (MCH) and immunisation services.
On March 26, council announced it was currently exploring and consulting on current and possible alternative service models for MCH and immunisation services.
Council is currently a provider for MCH services at 10 different locations and is an immunisation service at eight locations across the shire.
The MCH service is a free service available to all families with children from birth through to school age, supporting in areas like health, wellbeing, growth and development.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell said while there had been no decision, council wished to understand views regarding current services and consult on possible alternative arrangements.
“The decision to explore alternate delivery models is driven by the desire to optimise outcomes for families and children who are the prime users of MCH and the wider community in relation to immunisation services,” Cr Mackrell said.
“We have teams of highly skilled and experienced staff, however there are certain aspects related to delivering health and clinical services that are sometimes difficult for local government organisations to meet.”
Cr Mackrell said council was keen to explore other options while speaking with current service users to understand “what works for them”.
The consultation period is now under way, with a survey open at www.campaspe.vic.gov.au/nowopen
Current MCH service users will have a survey link sent to them via message.
“We are very keen to gather information, so I urge service users and residents to take the survey so we can get a full picture of user opinions and views,” Cr Mackrell said.
