Goran Mitrevski and Stephen Coates were reappointed to the Audit and Risk Management Committee through a unanimous vote at council's regular meeting on March 26.
The six-member committee includes four independent members: Mr Mitrevski and Mr Coates, along with Daniel Butel and Andrew Johnson.
There are also two councillors on the committee: Mayor Shane Sali and Cr Anthony Brophy.
Mr Mitrevski was reappointed chair of the committee for a further 12 months, with his term to expire on May 31 next year.
Mr Coates was appointed for a further three years, with his term expiring on April 30, 2027.
The committee watches over council’s governance responsibilities and provides oversight of financial and performance statements, internal and external auditing and reporting, risk management, internal control management and compliance.
“I’ve said this before, and I think many councillors understand this, this is one of the most, if not the most important committee that this council has,” Cr Dinny Adem, who moved the motion, said.
“The audit and risk committee oversees our operations. All of them. Everything. And they have an opinion and they give us guidance and feedback on what they see is happening or not happening. It’s extremely important.”
Cr Brophy seconded the motion and spoke of his confidence in the two members and their contributions to the committee.
“Can I say that with both Goran (Mitrevski) and Stephen (Coates), in my time on this essential committee, really the epitome of professionalism, of diligence,” he said.
“They’re quizzical, and they’re very thorough with everything that they do.”
Cr Sali told the meeting that both men were highly credentialed.
“They are both exceptional operators,” he said.
“We’re lucky to have both of them and grateful to see them extended for a short time.”
