Police were alerted to a number of dead adult pigs and piglets on both Finley Rd and Conargo Rd about 5pm.
Murray River Police District Chief Inspector Michael Fuller confirmed that all animals located on the roadway were dead prior to being transported from a business.
“No live animals were involved in this incident,” Chief Insp Fuller said.
“These animals were in a number of locations on the road, out to about 7km along the Finley Rd.
“Council staff were contacted to assist in removing the dead animals from the roadway.
“As this was occurring the heavy vehicle driver who had been transporting the dead animals assisted in removing the dead animals.”
Police spoke to the driver, who reported the rear gate of his truck had come open whilst travelling through Deniliquin.
“The roadway was cleared, and all animals reloaded onto the heavy vehicle,” Chief Insp Fuller said.
“During the incident, no traffic accidents occurred, and no road closures were required - only temporary disruptions whilst dead animals were removed from the roadway.”
