The operation covered over 700,000 hectares across more than 100 participating properties and involved the collaboration of Local Land Services staff and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
This program removed just under 2000 feral pigs from the environment and complements the landholder-led ongoing on-ground control programs in the area.
This aerial program is a critical component of Murray LLS’s broader strategy to help landholders manage pest animal populations and their impacts across the region.
“Feral pig numbers have been increasing in recent years, particularly following favourable seasonal conditions,” Murray LLS regional pest animal coordinator John Nolan said.
“This extensive aerial operation provides a significant reduction in feral pig populations, helping to limit breeding opportunities and reducing the impact on landholders and the environment.”
The success of this program is a testament to the power of cooperative efforts and open communication between all parties involved.
The operation’s broad-scale approach supports landholders’ efforts to protect their properties and sustain local ecosystems, demonstrating the importance of coordinated pest control measures.
“We would like to thank all parties involved in this operation, including the landholders, our dedicated staff, NPWS and our other partners,” Mr Nolan said.
“The effectiveness of this program relies on the collective effort and long-term commitment to managing pest animal populations across the region.”
Local Land Services is committed to supporting landholders with ongoing pest control efforts and advice, ensuring the continued health of the region’s natural assets.
This program was possible thanks to the NSW Government’s 2024-25 $13.1 million Feral Pig and Pest Program.
