Last Wednesday, the course was finally opened for competitive nine-hole golf after being closed for almost two months due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
Kevin MacCormack won with 19 points on a countback from Gavin Houlihan, Shane Bywaters was next best on 18.
The ladies finally got back for their first hit of the season. Jenny Major’s 27 points over 18 holes won the daily event on a countback from Marg Knight.
The ladies welcomed new member Barb McCarty. Her knowledge of the course was evident, and her golfing ability showed early promise.
Captain Leigh Hicks was pleased with the roll-up for the first men's 18-hole competitive event for the 2020 season last Saturday.
Observing social distancing, handling your own cards and other Australian golf COVID-19 advice didn’t cause too many issues, although no scraping made it difficult to read putts.
Local builder David Fuller continued his late form from last season by winning with a solid 38 points from Jake Wright and Liam Keenan (36) and current club champion James Walsh (34).
Leisa Evans was the best for the ladies on 27 points.
The match committee will be meeting this week to discuss some important changes, especially for scraping and other clubhouse regulations.
It was good see the younger players using the course over last week and weekend. They are more than welcome to play on Saturday while football is in recess.
The club is happy to run a special event to cater for non-handicap players during our regular competitions.
Wednesday nine-hole events start at 9am and Saturday's assembly is from 11.30am.
The course committee has decided to lower the cutting deck on the big Toro mower due to the strong grass cover, so from this week all golfers will enjoy all fairways cut down to 19mm for the first time since we moved to the new course 35 years ago.

Lockington
It’s been a happy week for Lockington golfers, with the resumption of competition golf.
Golfers enjoyed the outstanding condition of the course, thanks to all the hard work put in by the workers.
On Wednesday, a quality field of ladies enjoyed their first hit, a nine-hole stableford event.
Annette Brereton was best on course with her excellent score of 20 points.
Runners-up were Marg Eade and Pauline Humbert, both with 16. It was terrific to see Pauline back having a hit.

Numbers were terrific for golf on Saturday and the weather was simply magnificent.
Jason Wakefield was best on course with a fine score of 39 points and won both the McColls Milk Player of the Day and B grade honours.
Trav Mancer was runner-up in B grade with a solid 35, ahead of captain Mark Lyons (34).
Brett Stone enjoyed his first hit back at Locky after injury with a solid 36 points to win A grade, in front of Kevin Humbert and Gary Milligan, both on 35.
Tom Scurrah won C grade with a good score of 37 points, just ahead of Don Muhleisen (36) and Bowden Stone (35).
