Thanks to the Lockington and District Business Centre, the town now has a new modular pump track.
Business Centre co-ordinator Terri Hateley said the project was 12 months in the making.
“A committee member saw a modular pumptrack in Horsham and her grandchildren enjoyed riding their bikes and scooters on it,” she said.
“So about 12 months ago, we researched where we could find some designs and layouts and thought it would be of great benefit for the Lockington community to have one here.”
A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders and scooters "pumping" — generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of peddling or pushing.
After researching, planning and working with the Campaspe Shire Council, the structure was made by the company Parkitect and shipped from Switzerland.
Once it arrived, the Business Centre, Action Club members and community members worked together to install the track while also levelling the site.
It was the mobility of the structure that led to the team choosing this sort of project for the land near Foodworks.
“We decided on the modular pump track as it is portable, can be moved if needed and creates something different than the many skate parks scattered throughout the region,” Ms Hateley said.
“It is important to have facilities like the pump track in Lockington for exercise and to engage our youth and families.”
And while it was only installed on Sunday, December 13, the response has been great.
“The community has been very positive and eager for the pump track to be up and running,” Ms Hateley said.
“It is still in finishing phase and there is still landscaping to be completed.”
