After almost a decade of discussions with Campaspe Shire Council, the project will finally begin on Monday, April 7.
Major’s IGA owner Brad Major said he hoped the new build would have a positive impact on the town.
“Under the new proposal, it is envisaged that the supermarket will consolidate its customer base and also play a greater role in serving passing trade,” he said.
“It will also play a vital role in ensuring Rochester continues to be an attractive place to live and shop.”
The construction aims to modernise the local supermarket and create a better shopping experience for the community.
The project involves the redevelopment of the existing store and the two adjoining shops located at 22 Gillies St and 8 Gillies St.
The works will also include the renewal of the car park at the rear end of the supermarket to improve the functionality and layout.
With a bigger space, the business is looking forward to an increase in stock and more options for local shoppers.
