The Live Work Invest website and campaign has been launched at a time when data indicated that a greater number of people are showing interest in relocating to regional areas.
Regional Australia Institute’s most recent Regional Movers Index report indicates that regional Australia is the nation’s ‘destination of choice’.
The data shows that while city dwellers are continuing to relocate out of metropolitan areas, regional Australians are increasingly staying put.
RAI CEO Liz Ritchie, who grew up in Deniliquin, said data from the September 2024 quarter report shows city-to-regional relocations are now sitting at 19.8 per cent above the pre-Covid average and 1.8 per cent above the average recorded during the height of lockdowns.
“In contrast, the inter-regional migration index - which tracks regional to regional relocations - has fallen by 5.1 per cent, suggesting that more regional residents are content to stay where they are,” Ms Ritchie said.
“With the continuing strong jobs market across regional Australia, increasing city property prices and ongoing cost-of-living pressures, it’s no surprise the regions remain desirable.
“The net migration index, measuring the population flow into regional Australia, is now sitting at its highest level since March 2022, and is 80 per cent above the pre-Covid average.
It’s vital this demographic shift is recognised, and regional communities are provided with the infrastructure, services and support they need.
As a nation, we must acknowledge that we are in a new era of migration where regional Australia is at the forefront.“
Murray River Mayor John Harvie said the Live Work Invest initiative was designed to encourage more people to embrace the beauty and possibilities of the region.
“Our region offers an unmatched lifestyle, strong business opportunities, and a welcoming community,” he said.
“Live Work Invest is about connecting people with these opportunities and showcasing why River Country is such a fantastic place to call home.”
Accessible at www.investrivercountry.com.au, the website is packed with tools to help visitors explore the area’s unique blend of lifestyle, work, and investment potential.
From finding business opportunities and connecting with local groups to being inspired by success stories, the platform is a comprehensive resource for entrepreneurs, job seekers, and families alike.
It features a business directory, regional investment prospectus and social media accounts to keep you updated on opportunities and success stories.
