A RATT spokesperson said the idea was inspired by two of its members who recently relocated to Benalla, from Melbourne.
“As they won’t be travelling for Christmas, they find themselves spending Christmas away from their families and friends — making them orphans this Christmas,” the spokesperson said.
“Because of this, we would love to host an orphans’ Christmas so that no-one in the Benalla community is alone at Christmas.”
Room at the Table has always been about social inclusion and reducing social isolation through tabletop games.
“So we feel that an orphans’ Christmas on Christmas Day with food and board games is a great way to reduce social isolation and include those who would otherwise be alone,” the spokesperson said.
RATT’s orphans’ Christmas welcomes widows, divorcees, travellers, expats, refugees, newly arrived residents, the homeless, anyone estranged from their families or without loved ones nearby.
In order to make this a reality, RATT members need some help.
