Sporting their eye-catching orange bucket hats and water bottles, the young golfers headed straight to the course with scorecards in hand, under the expert guidance of PGA Coach Sandy Jamieson.
The launch event was a true community affair, with parents, member volunteers, and local sponsor Rich Glen all contributing to a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.
The participants enjoyed a sunny afternoon of learning, laughter, and some impressive shots, showing that fun and friendship are at the heart of the Birdie Squad experience.
Spanning 21 weeks, the Birdie Squad program is designed to give children aged 7-12 a positive introduction to golf.
From learning the skills and course safety to playing in groups and scoring, the program offers a structured environment for young golfers to grow.
YMGCR Marketing Manager Rob Alexander expressed his excitement about the program’s successful launch.
"We’ve put a lot of thought into creating a fun, engaging experience for young kids, and seeing them out there today with huge smiles on their faces, it’s really special,” Mr Alexander said.
"With sixty kids, we knew the first session would be a bit of a learning curve, but once they get comfortable with the program and start building confidence, it’s only going to get better from here.
"The response has been incredible. Our first season sold out in just over a week, which shows the community’s enthusiasm.
We’re excited to expand the program next year and offer opportunities for older kids to join as well.”
Although the Birdie Squad program has sold out for 2024, YMGCR continues to welcome new junior members. Children under 18 can enjoy 12 months of free course access for just $60.
