While Molly was shy, she gave a thoughtful response to the question of what it was like attending St Joseph’s.
“I like coming to Rochester’s St Joseph’s Primary School,” Molly said.
Fellow student Hazel described what made her love her new school.
“I like having fun with my friends and Miss Mac (Foundation teacher Eliza McNamara) is a lovely teacher,” Hazel said.
Cruz patiently waited to answer a few questions about how he felt attending the education facility and what he enjoyed doing.
“I love books and sport,” Cruz said.
“I also love drawing and painting at school.”
Jack was the last student to be interviewed and was understandably frustrated with waiting for half an hour.
“I like playing outdoors at school with my friends,” Jack said.
“I might like to be a farmer when I grow up.”
Wellfare co-ordinator and visual arts teacher Jess Carmichael has spent a number of years at St Joseph’s and was delighted by the enthusiasm of the four precocious students.
“I’ve been at St Joe’s for the past 16 years and previous to that I was in Melbourne. I’m very proud of this school and the community we work in,” Ms Carmichael said.
“We do wonderful things here with our students to prepare them for a successful academic career.”
The school’s motto of ‘people of strength, people of gentleness’ also speaks volumes of how the students are educated in a supportive and nurturing environment.
“We would like our students to have an internal strength as well as having the ability to be kind and show others understanding and kindness,” Ms Carmichael said.
It will an exciting year ahead as the students settle in, making new friends and learning about the world in which they live.
“The new students are excited to be attending St Joseph’s and they’re also excited about making new friends, which is exciting for them and their parents,” Ms Carmichael said.
