The Member for Rodney, Mr Eddie Hann, has called for Government action in an endeavour to find a solution to the problem of the growing menace of European carp in the waterways of Victoria.

The carp population throughout the state has spread alarmingly since the threat of rapid increase was first brought to the notice of the Government and is now at a disastrous level, accelerated by recent flooding.

The Chief Secretary, Mr Rossiter, has advised Mr Stuary McDonald, MLC Northern Province, that it was proposed to close the Goornong Police Station.
The police officer would then be located in Elmore, although he would continue to reside in Goornong. The officer would provide a service at Goornong each Wednesday, when not otherwise engaged on special or emergency duties elsewhere.
The officer would also be available for after hours calls for service at Goornong.

The thump, thump, thump of helicopter blades was a signal for 200 red-hatted heads to look up and greet celebrated gardener Kevin Heinze to Lockington school on Wednesday.
Mr Heinze, on his third visit to the school, was one of four judges travelling around country Victoria for the state judging of the School Garden Awards.

Lockington won the regional section of the competition, which put it in line for the major award of $600.

Rochester and Elmore District Health Service has won accreditation for three years following the visit of three International Standards Organisation auditors for two days last week.
Acting chief executive Jill Dunbar said staff were ‘’ecstatic’’ over the ‘excellent’ rating the health service achieved.
‘’It’s a great result after so much hard work by so many people,’’ she said.
Health service board of management president Steve Roberts said there was a collective sigh of relief when the auditing team spokesperson said that patient care was ‘excellent’ and the service had achieved certification to international standard.

Rochester’s Meagan Keating has been appointed to a special taskforce to advise the Victorian Government on practical actions to lift women’s involvement in sport.
The group of nine will meet monthly for the next year and deliver its recommendations to Sport and Recreation Minister Damien Drum.
The key objectives for the group are to develop opportunities to further drive female engagement in leadership and governance roles within the sporting community.
‘‘This taskforce aims to identify and address those barriers that prevent females from realising their potential in the sport and recreation industry,’’ Mr Drum said.

Rochester’s inaugural Pedal For A Purpose raised $10,000 on Sunday, money which will now go to raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis in Australia.
Event organisers and mother-daughter duo Kate and Colleen Curran were thrilled with how the day unfolded.
‘‘It’s been a community project from day one and it really couldn’t have gone any better,’’ Colleen said.

Almost 60 people took part in the cycle (30km, 50km 100km) or walk (5km, 10km), which started and finished at the Rochester Elmore District Health Service.
