Developed in collaboration with the Rochester Place Based Committee and consulting firm Cred Consulting, the plan represents a collective vision for the town’s future.
Four themes came out of the report. First, a progressive Rochy that fosters a vibrant local economy with diverse business and employment opportunities.
Secondly, it is a town for everyone and works on building community connections, capacity, and wellbeing.
Thirdly, Rochy is a sustainable and resilient environment that supports community and environmental resilience.
Fourth, it retains a local identity by enhancing and preserving Rochester’s unique attributes.
During the meeting, Rochester councillor Paul Jarman described the Rochester Place Based Plan as an exciting development.
“There’s over 20 actions that fall out of this. Some short and medium-term and game-changers,” he said.
“It’s taken a while, but good things come to good people.”
Campaspe Mayor Rob Amos said the Rochester Place Based Plan had over 960 individuals actively participating in the consultation process.
“It has been pleasing to see the amount of community involvement through public feedback sessions, surveys, and drop-in sessions in Rochester,” he said.
Cr Paul Jarman shared the Mayor’s sentiments, agreeing that the level of engagement in the plan’s development was an excellent representation across the community.
“Community members have voiced their aspirations for a vibrant local economy, enhanced community connections, environmental resilience, and preservation of the town’s unique identity,” he said.
Rochester Place Based Planning Committee member Bec Hocking said it was a remarkable achievement for the committee to have the plan endorsed and that they look forward to getting projects off the ground.
“While some may perceive the plan as aspirational, it serves as a roadmap for the future development of Rochester,” Ms Hocking said.
