On Wednesday, November 13, registrations opened for the VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program, offering a week of swimming lessons for children aged four to 12 at a subsidised cost of $35.
“We’re making sure that kids have the swimming skills they need to stay safe this summer,” state Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
Participants will engage in either five 30-minute lessons or four 35-minute lessons throughout the week, creating a well-rounded foundation for safe swimming practices.
A significant boost of $117,000 has been allocated to provide tailored lessons for children with disabilities and diverse cultural backgrounds, creating 400 additional spots statewide.
Those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds can readily access swimming lessons in Mildura, Shepparton and Wodonga.
Last summer, more than 16,000 children in Victoria participated in the program at 169 swimming centres, with 120 located in regional areas.
“I encourage local families to sign up for the Summer Kidz Program so kids can learn the skills and water safety knowledge they need to enjoy their summers by the pool, river and near the ocean,” Ms Symes said.
