After concerns were raised about the future of the Rochester Police Station at last week’s Rochester Community Breakfast, a spokesperson for the Victorian Government confirmed Victoria Police was figuring out a course of action to take.
The Rochester Police Station incurred significant damage during last year’s flood and as a result police operations were temporarily relocated to Elmore Police Station in the immediate aftermath of the floods.
As of January, police began operating out of a temporary police station at the rear of the existing Rochester Police Station.
After confirming a comprehensive assessment had been taken, a spokesperson for the Victorian Government said Victoria Police was considering options for permanent restoration works, with a strong focus on ensuring that any repair works catered to community and police member needs by future-proofing for weather events and anticipated growth in the local area.
“The Campaspe Shire is also serviced by a 24-hour police station in Echuca, and six non-24-hour stations in Kyabram, Tatura, Tongala, Rushworth and Elmore,” the spokesperson said.
“Of the 3637 new police officers funded by investment from the government, an additional 74 people officers have been allocated to the Bendigo division, which includes the Campaspe Shire.”
