The Victorian Government has announced eligible concession card holders, including anyone receiving JobSeeker, youth allowance or pension payments, may receive the payment.
The payment is part of a $797 million package to help Victorians cover their power bills, with more people spending time at home in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the investment, $335 million will be dedicated to replace old systems with modern ones, which could help some households save $300 to $900 per year.
At 35,000 social housing properties, windows and doors will be sealed, with heating, cooling and hot water upgraded.
The government will also introduce minimum efficiency standards for rental properties, which will benefit about 320,000 properties across the state.
“Most Victorians have spent more time at home this year — and more on power bills – than they ever have,” Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said.
“That’s why we’re helping those struggling to pay their bills and making homes across the state more energy efficient.
“This pandemic has been hard enough without worrying about whether you can pay the power bill.
“Not only will we help cover that cost — we'll help Victorians make their home more efficient and fight climate change.”
