Radiating charm in the heart of Kyabram's CBD, the beautifully preserved, theatre stands as a beacon, illuminating the streetscape with its timeless elegance.
Serving as a cinema, theatre, playhouse, and dance palais, this versatile venue comfortably seats 430 patrons, each enjoying an excellent view of the screen.
In 1928, the Kyabram Free Press announced that Mr Lewis. H. Day would be building the theatre, and billing it the “Showplace of the Valley”.
The theatre had its official opening in 1929, and for nearly four decades and has showcased a range of films.
The theatre would find troubles and it ceased showings and closed in 1968, before a group of passionate film fanatics lobbied together and formed a theatre committee.
The committee successfully persuaded the shire to purchase the building, ensuring this historic gem remains open for history buffs and film enthusiasts to cherish and enjoy.
These passionate volunteers meticulously maintain the theatre, guaranteeing every visitor an authentic journey through time as they enter through the grand tri-double door entrance.
The passionate volunteers continually strive to restore the theatre to its former glory.
Thanks to generous support from the Community Bank Kyabram & District, the theatre’s exterior has undergone exciting upgrades.
These include a modern light box showcasing current and upcoming films, and stylish roof trim lighting that now elegantly illuminates Allan St.
The Plaza Theatre offers regular screenings every Tuesday and Saturday night at 7.30pm, featuring a diverse range of films to suit various tastes and preferences each week.
