When Nanneella horseman Col Godden was asked to give the 10-year-old mare another chance on the racetrack he was naturally a bit apprehensive.
But in nine starts for Godden, the daughter of Village Jasper has collected the winner's cheque twice and a top-three-finish cheque seven times.
The only time she has missed a place for Godden was still a creditable fifth at Bendigo.
The second of Village Art’s wins under Godden’s guidance was achieved at a recent Shepparton meeting, which was also the scene of another of her previous wins.
Appreciating the run of the race on the back of the pacemaker Sassy Feet, Village Art was able to sprint lane to victory over the fast finishing Jumpingjackhanover and the flashy skewbald Holstein.
Village Art is a veteran of 55 starts and despite her age has never raced better which is a credit to her trainer.
● Elmore trotter Regal Assassin completed successive wins on the track with a popular win at last Thursday’s Kilmore meeting.
The Keith Cotchin trained son of Majestic Son scored on the track at his previous start and, with Josh Aiken producing a perfect drive, he was too good for his rivals again.
Regal Assassin has now won two races and has filled two other top four finish places since finding his way back into the Cotchin stable where he had a stint last year.
