The club’s under 16 Shepparton District Junior League side got off to the perfect start after it secured a 34-point win over Echuca United Blue.
But for Tigers president Jeff Bright it was more about seeing the kids out on the field.
“It’s fantastic that we’re able to get some sort of competition away given the current restrictions,” he said.
“The ability to play is important for our players mental health and wellbeing as well as their football development.
“There had been a lot of discussion about whether we would be able to play at all, so to get some games in is a massive relief for our club.”
More players will take to the field this weekend with the Goulburn Valley and Goulburn Campaspe leagues set to start their modified competitions.
“We’re looking forward to having more of our players out on the court and field with their friends,” Bright said.
“It’s especially important our under 18 footballers and under 17 netballers are going to play some games this year. We see the final year of junior sport as an important step for our players.
“Our coaches are trying to get these players ready for senior competitions and we want them to play as many games as possible.
“We’ve got some talented players coming through and we want to see them take another step forward this year.”
