AFL Central Victoria has confirmed it has proposed a cap of $106,600 for clubs including Elmore and Lockington-Bamawm United, down from $130,000 from the cancelled 2020 season.
The proposal has been sent to AFL Victoria with clubs awaiting approval from the game’s governing body.
HDFNL chairman Peter Cole said he was more than happy with the proposed figure.
“I think it would be a good result for us if this cap does get the tick,” he said.
“Everyone is aware of the financial issues going on in the world now, so I’m pleased to say the figure hasn't been too drastically changed.
“One of the most pleasing things is that all the competitions, with the exception of the Central Murray League, have all undergone similar cuts.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the start of the 2021 season, some HDFNL clubs have already revealed big name signings.
And Cole said the recruiting process started well before the proposed caps were announced.
“A lot of clubs would have started the discussion just a few days after we called the season off,” he said.
“The salary caps are a good starting point for the clubs because they need some clarity on what they’ll be able to do heading into next season.
“Then there is the player points cap which we are still working on.
“Hopefully there are some more announcements in the coming weeks.”
Other competitions which fall under the AFLCV banner have also had their salary caps significantly cut
The Bendigo League will still have the highest cap at $125,000 – down from $150,000 in 2020.
The Loddon Valley and North Central competitions will share the same cap as the HDFNL.
● Meanwhile in recent weeks, AFLCV has been calling on supporters to name players in the fans team of the year for netball.
Colbinabbin's Kate Chirnside and Olivia McEvoy earned a place in the starting seven with attacker Jessica Geary named on the bench.
Elmore duo Cayde Hayes and Ruby Barkmeyer were also named in the team.
