Under AFL Victoria’s recently updated guidelines and state government COVID-19 restrictions, training can return in groups of 10.
There are able to be multiple groups but they must maintain a distance of 100m between one another.
Indoor facilities such as changerooms and toilets are unable to be used.
Junior teams in regional Victoria can also resume training but there are no restrictions on player numbers.
Tigers coach Steve Stroobants said he was hoping to take small steps forward as soon as possible.
“It would be good for all of the boys to get together for a kick,” he said.
“We won’t be going too hard early.
“We’re just grateful to have this opportunity. It will be good for a lot of people’s mental health.”
AFL Victoria said it was important all clubs follow the rules.
“If these protocols cannot be achieved, training and competitions should not proceed,” AFL Victoria said.
The changes mean Heathcote District league clubs including Elmore and Lockington-Bamawm United can also go back to training.
“From AFL Central Victoria's perspective, the protocols have been provided, so as long as clubs adhere to the protocols they are free to do whatever is best for their club in terms of return to training,” AFLCV regional manager Carol Cathcart told Australia Community Media.
“Our clubs have been really good at adhering to the policies all the way through and we need that to continue because what we do now will provide us with a much better chance of getting back to where we all want to be next year, which is playing football and netball again.”
All senior football competitions including the Heathcote District, Goulburn Valley and Murray leagues were called off this season.
Some juniors were able to play at least one match before restrictions were once again tightened as coronavirus numbers rose across the state.
