Saturday B1: Travelled to Benalla to play Moira, this game couldn’t have got a lot closer. Tunga prevailed 56 to 54 shots winning two rinks. Remain in 3rd spot on the ladder and play Rutherglen at home on Saturday. Rutherglen are struggling with numbers and last round the Tunga players travelled to give both clubs a game of bowls, same will occur this week. It will be a Costigan day to remember, with three generations, Pop Barry, son Troy and grandsons Jack and Tom.
This will be played on the “Costigan Green” at Tungamah, named a couple of years ago because of Barry’s long association and contribution to the Tungamah Bowling Club.
This will be a formidable combination. Barry has played most of the season, Jack has been playing for the last three and Tom just commenced this season, so Troy will be the ring in.
Saturday A3s: Home to Mansfield who defeated Tunga 83 to 66 shots. Winning one rink, narrowly going down on two and collected just 2 points.
This result sees Tungamah drop out of the four. Saturday, Tungamah travel to Benalla where they need to have a victory to have any chance.
Australia Day – January 26 - saw Tungamah host their Annual Tournament.
This event is always a pre booked with clubs returning on an annual basis to compete, teams from Moira, Benalla, Yarrawonga, Wangaratta, YMGCR, Cobram, Wunghnu, Edis clan and Tungamah.
Green was running to perfection and the surrounds looked magnificent, thanks to Graham, Al and Thommo for the preparation.
Thanks to the players and members who supplied salads to compliment the luncheon of lamb chops, cooked to perfection by Laurie and John and who could forget Bill the Barman.
Winners on the day: Gary Fenton and his team from Wangaratta were the only three game winners which avoided a play off.
It was pleasing to see Gary win as he has been a regular for many years. Tungamah’s team of Dick and Jason Thomson and Troy Costigan were Runners Up with 2 wins and a draw.
YMGCR Bowls
Mid – Week Pennant
The A1s hosted Corowa Civic at the Golf Club in a game that many objective observers would have the A1s winning with a degree of comfort. But after the 63rd end of a hard fought match, it was Corowa Civic who prevailed by the narrowest of margins.
The final score saw Corowa Civic winning 53 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 52 shots and 2 points.
Securing 2 valuable points for the home side were Ian Febey (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Gary Presnell (3), and Ray Irvine (S), who won 19 shots to Corowa Civic 18 shots.
The A1s are now in 6th place on the ladder and next week journey to Wangaratta.
The A2s played Wodonga at the Golf Club and in a closely contested game it was the A2s who prevailed, winning 59 shots and 11 points to Wodonga 52 shots and 3 points. Fighting hard all game and securing one point in a draw were Lynne Baxter (L), Peter Lidgerwood (2), Liliana Borwick (3), and Vic Brincat (S), 18 shots to Wodonga 18 shots. The A2s are in 4th place on the ladder and are a realistic shot at playing finals.
Next week they travel to Wangaratta for what may be a season defining game.

Weekend Pennant
The A1s travelled to Wangaratta, for what in the past has not been an easy assignment. However, continuing their good form from last week, it was the A1s who walked away with the win.
After the 84th end it was YMGCR 84 shots and 14 points to Wangaratta 69 shots and 4 points.
Blazing a winning trail for the Golf Club were Chris Horne (L), Peter Lidgerwood (2), Anne Miles (3), and Ian Brimblecombe (S) who put Wangaratta to the sword 29 shots to Wangaratta 11shots.
Starring for the A1s were the rink of Colin Withers (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Michael Vaughan (3), and Ray Irvine (S), who won 31 shots to Wangaratta.
With other results not going YMGCR’s way, the A1s are still in 6th place on the ladder, but the season does look secure.
The A1s travel to Rutherglen next week in what will be a solid away test.
The A3s hosted Beechworth at the Golf Club and were convincingly beaten by the top side. Final scores YMGCR 56 and 3 points to Beechworth 79 shots and 15 points. Gaining 2 priceless points for the A3s were the rink of Doug McTier (L), Lynne Baxter (2), Bill Jenkins (3), and Vic Brincat (S), who won 19 shots to Beechworth 17 shots.
The A3s are in 4th place on the ladder and are a realistic chance to make their mark in the finals.
Next week they travel to Wodonga for what will be a real test.
The A5s entertained Wangaratta at the Golf Club and it was the visitors who won the day.
Final scores saw Wangaratta win 55 shots and 12 points to YMGCR 49 shots and 2 points.
Bucking the loss and winning in great style for YMGCR were Terry Baxter (L), Jodi Powell (2), Vicki Withers (3), and Ross Lloyd (S), who won 22 shots to Wangaratta 11 shots.
The A5s are precariously placed in 7th place on the ladder and next week host Chiltern at the Golf Club.

However, Mick Crawfords crew of Mighty Mick Dixon, Sammy Smith and Peter Humphrey’s had an enjoyable day out winning 28/16- great job boys! Ladder Pos 5th.
B1s travelled to St James, a notoriously difficult patch for visitors to conquer.
Yarra managed to master the Green on this occasion coming away victorious with a close result 58/55. Mostly due once again to the Fantabulous quartet skippered by Tommy Dodds, handing out kisses and doffing caps with great regularity.
“Rosie” Andrew, Jules Allen and Johnny Lowdell now carrying the permanent moniker of J Lo.
The team produced an epic win 32/13. Amazing effort on a tough green! Ladder Pos 7th.
B2s had a tough tussle as always with Club Mulwala going down 2 rinks out of 3 just going down 54/60.

It was pleasing to get all rinks up on the day. The rink skipped by Jock McQualter included Kim Silver, Kaylene Tait and Lisa Burnham combined beautifully, producing a very convincing 20/9 win.
Jock is having an absolute purple patch at the moment; proving age means nothing in this great game of ours.
