With the winter domestic season entering its final round before finals next week, the club is already looking ahead to the summer season. Registrations open in September before the season starts in October and will finish in March 2025.
Echuca Basketball Association president Lisa Baker highlighted the club’s excitement for the summer domestic competition, which features junior and senior leagues for all skill levels.
She hopes the club will receive enough interest to have a women’s competition soon, and they have been inquiring about and gauging interest in the community.
“Our summer season is typically our biggest, so we are excited to see how many players and teams we have for it,” she said.
“We have juniors and men’s domestic competitions, and we will try to get a women’s competition up and running, so we’ll put some feelers out and see how we go.”
Echuca Basketball Stadium will host the 2024 Country Under-12 Jamboree during the September school holidays. Two hundred and forty top-age boys and girls were selected to train in a high-performance environment over four days from September 21 to 24.
Two days later, they will hold their Echuca annual basketball tournament along with Rochester and Kyabram, which will feature roughly 110 teams from around northern Victoria that will kick off the 2024/25 season.
The Country Basketball League will kick off in October. The men’s Echuca Pirates will play in the North West division, where they will look to rebound from an underwhelming 2023/24 campaign.
Baker highlighted the excitement around the Echuca Basketball Association for the upcoming summer season.
“We are stoked to kick off the season. It’ll be busy, but it will be exciting to see our junior pirates, our CBL team, the jamboree and our domestic season happen throughout the summer,” she said.
