Winning the toss, Finley chose to bat.
Harry Wilkinson (44 not out), carrying his bat, was the standout along with Justin Crowley (22).
The Cats toiled but could only manage 116 before being bowled out.
Going into bowl, the young Cats were full of energy thanks to an early wicket from Bailey Coombs.
Jackson Tooke bowled well again, and the team fielded well.
Unfortunately, the senior batters of Cobram couldn’t be removed, and they chased the total down for the loss of only one wicket.
Our final game before the Christmas break comes against Nathalia on Saturday, in Finley.
B-grade
B-grade travelled to Cobram on Saturday.
In their last game before the Christmas break, Finley’s side featured only two players over 20 years of age.
They knew they were going to have to play well.
Finley won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision which did not go according to plan.
Cobram picked up a plethora of early wickets to have the Cats 5-16.
Finley captain Cameron Isedale (27) stood strong for the Cats, with Jordan Dean (1) helping steady the innings.
The pair put on a 22-run partnership.
Isedale and veteran Russell Anderson (21) then put on a 35-run partnership to help rebuild the innings, but then a flurry of late wickets and some late runs from Evan Lawton (9) saw the Cats bowled out for 85.
Finley took to the field knowing that they would have to pull off a near-perfect performance.
Dan Eldridge (4-33 of 8) tried his absolute best, bowling with real pace and skill to target the stumps, and attacking the batters.
Finley were really tight in the field, highlighted by a fantastic catch by Noah Brindley at square leg.
Lawton (1-8 of 2.4) came on, picking up a wicket instantly.
But in the end, Cobram was far too good, chasing the score five wickets down.
Finley will now look to regroup over the Christmas break before coming back raring to go in the new year.
Under-15s
The under-15s Cats travelled to Katamatite on Saturday morning for a 25-over game, due to the rain affected first day of play.
Finley captain Nick Chesworth won the toss and elected to bat first, opening the innings with James Winn.
With an innings of really strong bowling from Katamatite, James and Jackson Pitt were the batters to stand up, both posting scores of 20 plus.
Jackson finished the innings on 23 not out.
With the Cats posting a total of 96, Finley needed to bowl tight, and for opening bowlers Evan Lawton and Noah Brindley to take some early wickets to boost the Cats’ confidence.
Coming up to drinks, the Tigers had gotten off to a strong start due to their opening batters.
The Cats needed a boost, which came with Angus Urquhart taking three wickets in the over after drinks and taking the score to 3-50.
Following this period, the Tigers ticked over the scoreboard frequently, winning the game by five wickets.
There were strong spells of bowling from Angus and Sophie Urquhart, Jordan Dean, and Jackson Pitt.
