Following the VCCL Team of the Year guidelines, each squad features two openers, four batters, one all-rounder, one wicketkeeper and four bowlers, with the nominations based on total runs, wickets and wicketkeeping dismissals – not taking into account averages.
The News will feature one team a day from the B to E-grade in the lead-up to Wednesday’s presentation night, where the A-grade Team of the Year and Lightfoot Medal will be announced.
Today we complete the series with the Clyde Young Shield B-grade Team of the Year.
Clyde Young Shield B-grade grand finalists Mooroopna and Northerners dominate the 2021-22 Team of the Year, making up half of the 12 players selected in the side.
In what was a fiercely contested season from beginning to end, Pine Lodge’s Steven Van Taarling (285 runs at 28.50) and Northerners’ Matt Hall (319 runs at 24.14) won the two opening positions after consistent campaigns.
The competition’s dominant performer with the willow, Paul McDonald, headlines the list of batters after striking 614 runs at 51.17 and is joined by Northerners skipper Glen Davidson (467 runs at 38.92), Central Park-St Brendan’s Matt Collins (278 runs at 39.71) and Mooroopna’s Joel May (365 runs at 30.42) in the middle order.
Kyabram’s Jason Parsons assumes the role of all-rounder after a fantastic campaign that yielded 264 runs at 18.86 and 25 wickets at 9.96, while Mooroopna’s Ben Woods takes the gloves.
Northerners quick Thomas Magee leads the bowling attack after taking 30 wickets at 11.47 and is joined by Tatura’s Heath Fidock (28 wickets at 10.64), Numurkah’s Reydan Lacuin (25 wickets at 11.76) and Pine Lodge’s Nav Gill (24 wickets at 12.42).
