The twin towns’ tinniest athletes got their season back on track on Friday for the first official evening of Little Athletics.

Although wild weather cancelled the centre’s original season-opener on November 12, nothing was stopping the junior athletes on November 19 as they competed in several events including sprints, long jump, high jump and shot put.
Echuca-Moama Little Athletics Club president Leah Smith said it was fantastic to see Jack Eddy Oval flooded with kids on Friday.
“It’s been a long time coming with delays with COVID-19,” Smith said.
“So it was pleasing to see as many kids as we had, all out there enjoying themselves.”
The centre has close to 130 registrations, along with 76 trialling athletes, this season, and while last year the centre had a record-breaking 200 registrations, Smith said figures were not the focus at the moment.
“We jut want to give as many kids (as possible) the opportunity to get out and be doing something again,” she said.
Smith said there was plenty of opportunity for parents to get involved, with the centre purely volunteer-run.
The season will continue at Jack Eddy Oval tonight from 5.30pm, with weekly events held until mid-December. The centre then goes on a one-month Christmas hiatus.
