The Deniliquin Blue Heelers are digging their heels in and trying to get the club back to an active status.
They are still trying to register more players as well as filling important roles within the club.
Following the meeting held on Sunday, club president Kurt Longford said the hard work now begins.
He said another meeting on the club’s progress would be held Sunday, January 19, 2025.
At this stage, Longford anticipated training for prospective members will begin on Wednesday, January 8 at Rotary Park, and would then continue weekly on Wednesdays.
Registrations are $100 per player which includes insurance, shorts, socks and jersey at the end of the year.
Conditions dictate that the club needs to have a full team of players for one men’s and one women's side to be registered by February 28, 2025 to be fully compliant with the Protens rules, which also stipulates no forfeits in this first season.
At present, the club has four players for the men registered and another six for the women’s team.
The club is also seeking support team members, and is willing to fund training and courses for roles like trainers and first aid officers.
Longford said the club is also continuing with plans to raise the profile of rugby league and fundraiser for the season ahead.
A sportsman's night is being planned for the new year, with NSW State of Origin, Australian Kangaroos and Canberra Raiders legend Laurie Daley expected to be a special guest.
The other guest speaker on the night will be local bloke and Australian cricketing legend himself, Simon O’Donnell.
The sportsman’s night will be held at the Railway Hotel in March. An exact date is to be confirmed.
Tickets will be $150, which will cover the cost of food and drinks.
The funds will be going toward the continued development of the club toward the 2025 season.
Prospective players are encouraged to register at profile.mysideline.com.au/register?source=rugby-league.
Those interested in committee or support roles are asked to attend the next committee meeting.
Club updates are available on the club’s Facebook page - ‘Deniliquin Blueheelers Rugby League Football Club’.
