The Lions swiftly recovered from their heavy opening-round loss to Echuca by showing a steady hand in chasing Nondies-Cohuna’s first-innings total of 152 runs.
Archie Sussex top-scored for the men in purple with 43, while Karim Marcelle’s 38 not out and 34 from Rhys Bradley helped Nondies-Cohuna build a solid total.
Josh Cairns was the Lions’ best with the Kookaburra in hand, claiming 3-31 from his nine overs, but Declan Pearse was also tidy from his nine with economical figures of 2-24 as Nondies finished all out for 152.
But the Lions’ run chase started with a wobble, with Liam Hamilton knocked over by young gun Xavier Wishart on the second ball of the innings.
However, it didn’t take BLU long to put that brief stumble behind it, as captain Regis Chakabva and Pearse led the fightback.
The pair put on 72 runs for the second wicket, with Chakabva raising the bat for his half-century before Sussex had him caught on 51.
Sussex struck with the wicket of Werner Brand before Nondies captain Kyeran Ellery sent Kade Pearse packing the next over, leaving BLU sitting at 4-85 after 14 overs.
With the game in the balance, Luke Thompson combined with Declan Pearse to post a 63-run partnership, and despite Thompson falling to Sussex for 44, the damage was already done and BLU crossed the line with five wickets to spare in the 27th over.
The Lions will now look to their clash against the in-form Echuca South this week to make it two wins on the spin, while Nondies-Cohuna will be hoping to rebound against Rochester.
