McEwen Reserve and Shepparton North collided in a near-certain finals preview with identical 7-1-2 records and a point to prove.
As observers are well used to by now, Tanner Hunter and Tim Comer worked in tandem to provide a vital early ascendancy with the first three sets.
Though Shepparton North battled back in the absence of McEwen’s power duo down the order, the damage had long been done as the hosts moved a game clear on top in a tight 5-44 to 4-39 triumph.
Elsewhere, Karramomus achieved its third win of the season by knocking over Central Park at home, knotting the two sides at 3-8 in the process.
