Seddnaya is a large military prison on the outskirts Damascus where the Syrian government detained thousands.

While government troops said they were "repositioning", insurgents were gaining further territory in the south of the country and on the border with Israel, increasing the pressure on al-Assad.
Al-Assad's office in Damascus denied rumours that the president had fled.
